FAQs

What is Moma Hilo's made-to-order model?Moma Hilo operates on a made-to-order basis, meaning each piece is crafted specifically for you when you order it. This approach helps reduce waste, ensures thoughtful craftsmanship, and guarantees that each garment is made with care and precision. We believe in creating pieces that last, rather than contributing to the overproduction and excess in the fashion industry.
-
What are deadstock fabrics and why does Moma Hilo use them?We carefully select only deadstock fabrics, which are leftover materials from the fashion industry that could otherwise end up in landfill. They can be leftover from other production runs, remnants from other small or large brands or fabrics from textile mills that didn't sell. We source luxury deadstock fabrics using local suppliers, and use these to ensure that each garment has a minimal environmental impact. This practice allows us to create high-quality, sustainable clothing that helps reduce waste without compromising on style or craftsmanship.

How do I order?Moma Hilo is available to order on the first Tuesday of each month. The online shop goes live on this day, for one day only. This allows us to operate with intention and take you along on the journey of your pieces being made. Sign up to our mailing list to get early access to the collection a few days before, giving you an opportunity to shop the limited edition pieces before everybody else (sign up here). When the shop is live, you can shop via the product pages using our size guide as a reference for your order. You can also email Penelope at studio@momahilo.com if you need anything specific (within reason) eg. longer leg length. We'll always try our best to help with your special order.
-
What happens when I place my order?Once your order has been placed you'll receive a confirmation email - if this is the first time you're hearing from us, please check your junk mail. You'll then receive regular updates on how your order is doing and who is busy making it, building connection to your new piece so that you can treasure it forever. We'll then notify you once it's complete and get it shipped to you!
-
How long does it take to receive my order?Since each piece is made-to-order, it typically takes between 4-6 weeks for production, followed by 3-5 days for delivery. Please check the product pages for a more accurate time dependant on style, as some timelines are quicker than this. As everything is crafted with care, we appreciate your patience. We believe good things take time and we hope you'll agree that it's worth the wait. You'll receive updates on your order’s progress, and we will notify you when it’s ready to ship.
-
Do you ship internationally?Currently we do not offer international shipping, this is because we offer an intimate, personalised customer service and feel we couldn't achieve this on an international scale at this time. Once we've worked out how to get the same customer service to you at a distance, we certainly will do.
-
What is your return policy?Due to the nature of our made-to-order process, we do not accept returns or exchanges, but if you have any concerns, please reach out—we’re happy to help. You can email Penelope at studio@momahilo.com

How does Moma Hilo approach sustainability? We pride ourselves on operating on a very small scale. We make pieces that are made-to-order with no waste, that are intended to be treasured for a lifetime. Our clothing is adjustable where possible, meaning it can live a long life and adapt to your body as or when your body changes. This also makes our pieces easy to pass on to others in the future. We use only deadstock fabrics, that are all sourced through local suppliers and our manufacturers are all based in London (our home) - keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum. Our studio space is located at Big Creative Academy, where we have a Fashion Residency and run regular workshops with the students on sustainable business practices within the fashion industry.
